Mission

Downtown Ministries Inc. (DTM) is a Christ-centered organization that desires to love our neighbor and serve our city. DTM empowers individuals and families who have experienced difficult circumstances and poverty. Everyone has God-given potential with unique gifts and talents that need to be developed.

Downtown Ministries provides programs and outreaches to meet the needs of struggling individuals and families. The adult and teen Jobs for Life programs identify the purpose for their lives. It also teaches people not only how to get a job, but keep a job.  Not having a plan for a vocation has consequences in the area of mental health and addiction. Part of the mission is to provide a mentoring relationship to support the participant going through the program. The goal of finding meaningful employment provides dignity in their lives.

Our transitional houses fulfill the DTM mission by providing refuge and shelter for women and their children as they seek second chances. Ben’s House, Heidi’s House, and The Clinton House also establish stability and a place for protection as they choose how to move forward with their lives. The housing opportunity provides relief while developing a healthy productive plan for their lives. Mental health and addiction issues are addressed. Connecting with additional community programs such as therapy and support groups meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. We provide counseling and programming for the area that also needs to be addressed. A team of people from Downtown Ministries offers the encouragement and support that is often required.

Vision

Downtown Ministries exists to impact and change communities by offering sustainable solutions that provide hope, purpose, and partnership to resource and restore our community's most vulnerable populations.

About

Downtown Ministries Inc. (DTM) is a non-profit organization that has been providing needed ministry to the greater Goshen and Elkhart County, Indiana area since 2001. DTM was founded initially as a community initiative when Harvest Community Church in Goshen purchased the old United States Post Office in Goshen. The building was repurposed as a youth center named “The Post,” and Harvest created the DTM non-profit to better suit the needs of the youth center.  The initiative was foundational for serving the Goshen community.

Downtown Ministries Executive Director Jim Dreier leads the organization and envisions innovating and expanding the ministry to better serve the greater Goshen, Indiana, and Michiana area. Dreier leads by bringing initiatives to have a greater presence and bring more effective ministry to Goshen.
